Pros: solid feel, well built, both firewire and usb interfaces Cons: a bit more pricey but worth it, annoying led
These things are so great I have two. I bought one a while back when I was upgrading the ATA drive in my laptop and still use it as a backup drive.
I just did the same thing with a newer laptop that has a SATA interface, so I bought this model. The only complaint I had about the original design was its irritatingly bright blue LED that got even more irritating as it flickered from blue to red while writing data. This new model fixes that somewhat by dimming the blue to a more reasonable level.
The FireWire interface is great for Mac users like me because you can use it as a bootable drive. This is extremely handy for emergency recovery situations when you might not have a spare laptop around. The option to use USB is also handy in case I ever need an external drive for a PC.
This chassis is a bit more pricey than the rock-bottom of the line you can find out there, but they are built well. When it comes down to it, do you want to trust your hard drive to a chintzy chassis? I'm as thrifty as the next guy, but backups are not a place to skimp.
